Decorating Themes To Liven Up Your Home

You’ve decided to redecorate your home, but you aren’t sure what style you prefer. In fact, you aren’t sure what the different decorating themes are. How are you going to decide which option is right for you when you don’t even know what they all are? Actually, it isn’t really as overwhelming as it seems. While there are many different themes, they all are basically variations of several major themes.

One of the most beloved themes is the country decorating style. While country used to only mean a kind of cutesy, homespun look, it has evolved and matured over the years. Now, country looks include primitive, Tuscan or rustic Italian, French, American farmhouse and country Victorian themes. All of these looks draw inspiration from rural life and have a relaxed, inviting feel.

Modern themes are sleek and sophisticated. They tend to use colors that become part of the background, such as white or beige, instead of colors that really pop. You should love geometric shapes and be able to handle a room that isn’t filled with symmetrical objects. This style can be hard to live with if you don’t embrace a minimalist lifestyle, as there aren’t many things in a room with a modern theme.

Southwestern themes still have a strong Native American influence, but rustic and cowboy western styles are becoming increasingly popular. Like country themes, western themes pull colors and design elements from nature. Adobe red, sage green and brown colors are common. Stone, wood and leather materials are prevalent. Antler furniture and accessories are unique and lovely accent pieces.

For people who love beaches and the sea, there are several great options. Nautical themes emphasize blue and white colors and ship related décor. Lighthouses are also extremely popular. A beach theme with the sand and sage colors of a typical grass colored dune can be very restful. Sea shells, anchors and model ships are all typically found in rooms that are decorated with one of these themes.

Tropical themes can include bright colors or can come in a more sophisticated brown, green and beige palette. Some themes have a lot of whimsical accessories, animal prints and palm trees. Others are fairly sleek and sophisticated. They use rattan, dark wood and iron furnishings and cushions covered in white, beige, or sage fabrics to create a room with a tropical feel.

Asian decorating themes have been enduringly popular. People overwhelmed by clutter and those who long for a serene retreat are especially drawn to these simple, elegant spaces. Red, black, tan and green are common colors. Furnishings are simple and the emphasis is on creating a meditative and peaceful feel in these spaces. Candles, cushions, a single flower bud in a simple vase, screens and mirrors are common accessories.
