Discount Home Decor Ideas
- Revive Your Home On A Budget

When you are on a budget, watching home decorating shows on television or leafing through home design magazines can be really frustrating. As people discuss the merits of new appliance colors, you’re wondering if that avocado fridge can last another year. When a designer rips up a gorgeous tile floor to replace it with the newest tile product, you actually get teary eyed. These big budget remodels may make it seem like only people with plenty of cash can afford to decorate their rooms beautifully, but nothing could be further from the truth. Discount home décor options are available for people with a budget as small as a few hundred dollars. In fact, with a budget of fifty dollars a month, you can still create a lovely and welcoming home.

The first thing you will need to do is find an inspiration room. This room may have cost thousands to create, but that’s okay. You aren’t going to be buying the same big budget pieces. Instead, you’re going to use the photo as a shopping and design guide so that you can avoid wasting money on something that won’t work in your newly decorated space.

Once you have a theme in mind, it is time to take a look at your walls. If they are freshly painted in a nice, neutral shade, you’re in luck. Otherwise, you’re going to need to redo the walls. Paint will be one of your biggest expenses, but don’t give in to the temptation to buy a poor quality, cheap option. A nice, fresh coat of paint can make or break a room. If you are working on a very small monthly budget, it can be frustrating to spend the entire first month’s decorating allowance on paint, but it will be worth it in the long run.

Next, evaluate the floor. If you don’t like the current look, you may be able to salvage or disguise it. Large area rugs can cost several hundred dollars, but are much cheaper than a new tile or wood floor. With some smart shopping and a little luck, you may be lucky enough to get a discontinued floor model rug for as low as twenty dollars. If the floor is really in bad condition, consider adding a layer of plywood as a new sub floor and then using self stick tiles or interlocking laminate flooring to create a faux stone tile or wood look.

Finally, you are ready to start furnishing the room. For budget furniture options, follow the lead of smart, eco-friendly designers and head to thrift shops and rental shop warehouse sales to find pieces that are similar in shape or style to the pieces in your inspiration room. While some of the pieces may need a bit of DIY ingenuity to bring out their former beauty, the prices are definitely budget friendly.
