Choosing Interior Decorating Ideas
That Work for Your Home And Your Budget
You need to do something about your home’s lack of décor, but you feel completely overwhelmed. There are so many decorating ideas for your house available to you. How are you supposed to choose just one
or two of the many interior design options you see in magazines, on television shows and in your favorite stores? You have no idea, but you do know one thing - if you don’t make a choice soon, you are going to be in big trouble, because you’ve been bringing home a random assortment of items that struck your fancy without worrying about a theme.
Actually, many of those items you’ve been buying may just help you find the right interior decorating style for your home. Pull them out and try to group them by similarities. Then, step back and take a look at them. Are they in several harmonious color groups? Perhaps they all use bold geometric designs. Once you find a similarity or two, you’ll be able to easily narrow down all those decorating ideas that have been overwhelming you to several ideas that you are drawn to.
When you have selected one or two styles you love, you are ready to start decorating your home. The first step is to look at photos of homes that are decorated in these styles and pick out elements that appeal to you. Make a list of things you’d like to see in your rooms and note down any decorating tips that you find, as well.
Next, read over all of the information you have gathered and take another look at the photos. You’ve probably gathered so many resources that the thought of putting them all together in a room is pretty overwhelming. This is why you now need to pick just two or three must have features for each room from all of that material.
After you have painted the room, put up drapes and arranged your furniture, it is time to put your personal stamp on the room. Add accessories, meaningful souvenirs and family treasures. When you are happy with the way the room looks, snap a few pictures.
Take a close look at your photos. You’ll probably notice things that you didn’t see when you were looking at the room in person, such as a spot you forgot to paint or an accessory that just looks awful. Make some final adjustments and take a new set of photos. Now, the photos of your newly decorated room should remind you of your inspiration pictures. However, it should also feel like home. If the photos don’t capture the feel of the style you were trying to emulate or if the room doesn’t look inviting enough for you to want to crawl right into the photos, continue to make changes and then take new photos until you are happy with the result.
When you are finally happy with the room, you may be tempted to jump right into a new decorating project. Great! Just don’t forget to stop and relax in the rooms you’ve already decorated once in awhile. After all, since you are spending so much time decorating your home to create an inviting retreat, it just make sense to remember to use it.
